Moments with Mom

I'm actually going to be traveling during Mother's Day so I decided to treat my mom to a special day before I left. We visited the Purple Onion cafe for the first time (healthy and delicious, yes please!) and of course we had to match! Before we left to eat I chose to gift her the beautiful vintage style "Rivet" Coach watch with a design similar to the iconic rivet hardware on all Coach bags, jewelry and shoes! It has the most lovely tumbled finish and is small enough to be considered jewelry! We resized it right away and now she won't take it off!

Mom: Express Skirt

The weather was beautiful and I'm already looking forward to going back to try their croissant sandwich and tomato bisque! We had a wonderful time chatting about my upcoming trip, her new workout routine and the latest on Dr. Oz (her favorite show).

We also talked about Mother's Day and I told her all about my post in which I shared what made her special to me and my thoughts looking back on our lives growing up together. She shared how much she loved putting our Easter baskets together and seeing our excitement in the morning. She feels like her most rewarding experience is really now and seeing how well all her daughters get along.

It was a really lovely day and I'm glad I took the time out to spend it with my mom. I see her a lot but we don't spend really quality time together like that often enough.

April has been one of my busiest months ever. Not to mention in about one week I'm leaving for Spain! The weather is been so up and down, like just the other night it rained but by morning it was clear skies and beautiful! This dress reminds me of the Talia dress I wore recently but realized I shouldn't have worn it with a belt. Both dresses have a very bohemian feel that I love.

Mother's Day is coming up and so I've been thinking a lot about my mom! Most of my life, my mom was so eager to get everything right. (She's so easygoing now that I’m older!) Her own parents neglected her so she was determined to be the opposite. To be honest, she wasn't perfect. She had too many rules for my sisters and I which made our lives difficult. It was hard to see past that when I was younger. Now I see just how amazing she was and of course, still is.

Some of the best things about growing up in the Ricks household were the delicious dinners, amazing packaged lunches and on-the-go breakfasts my mom would whip up almost every day. (Which, okay, we took for granted.) She signed my sisters and me up for all kinds of activities: gymnastics, soccer, tennis, volleyball... you name it. One of her greatest skills was throwing amazing birthday parties. Every birthday was a pool party/sleepover. She helped me send out invitations, plan out the games, and she made the most incredible Belgian waffles with strawberries and whipped cream in the morning. I learned endless lessons from my mom including good moral values, spending money wisely, proper social etiquette, and most of all selflessness. I've never known a more selfless person.

One standout memory is when I was 8 years old and upset that I didn't have a costume for the Halloween parade at my school (I now see the silliness of this). Seeing how sad I was, my mom worked all night sewing me an adorable little maid costume. I woke so excited to see what she had done for me. I don’t think I understood the work that went into that little costume. I know now that for about 25 years, she sacrificed a lot more than sleep for my sisters and me.

Today I'm wearing a gorgeous peach dress similar to a blue one I showed you guys last year, if you remember. I thought it would be lovely to style rose gold with peach, so I chose all rose gold accessories minus a clutch, which I'm on the hunt for currently! My Coach 1941 Sport Watch is really the star accessory here, adding a hint of polish and modern elegance to this very feminine look. The larger case makes for a sporty feel while the crystal detailing adds a refined touch. You can wear a watch like this for almost any occasion so you'll definitely see it on me again soon.

Have a lovely day all!
xoxo
